Gearin'up this week features The Rhythm Slaves. Strictly a producer, one time Londoner Richard Gow, fused his love for both house and jazz to start releasing under the moniker of The Rhythm Slaves back in 2001. You can check out a bio and most of his work on soussol records.

We here in Australia like to claim talented New Zealanders as our own, and Melbourne based Lanu(aka Lance Ferguson), is definitely one of the most talented and hard working musicians doing his thing at the moment.

I have a bit of blue eyed soul for you this week with Loungin'. Benny Sings drops his third full length release (Benny....At Home 2007), on a fave label of mine, Sonar Kollektiv. Although on my radar, i never got around to purchasing his other two LPs(Champagne People 2004, I Love You 2005), but after a couple of quick listens to this album i may have to do a bit of back cataloguing.

My posts may be a bit light on over the coming days as my wife has just given birth to our third child. Young Miles was born naturally around 4am this morning after a quick labour, and he and mother and doing fine.

This week Gearin'up features west coast cat Capitol A (aka Antoine Green). His name may or may not be familiar to you, but quite possibly you may have heard him lend his MC skills to some of the biggest artists and producers, particularly in the nu-jazz/hip-hop scene. He has collaborated with the likes of Jazzanova, Jazzy Jeff and King Britt to name a few.

This edition of "Cover Me" features a reworking of a George McRae classic "I Get Lifted". The cover comes off a six track Ep i have been diggin' by funk outfit Orgone, on Ubiquity Records. Described as cosmic funk, their version sounds like it could come straight off a Brand New Heavies album, but is probably a little uncool to call it acid jazz.

I haven't really posted much in the way of brokenbeat stuff on this blog yet, so i will hook you up with a couple of new tracks that have come my way recently.

I was originally going to have this as a bit of a regular chillout/after the weekend post as an alternative to my Gearin'up posts. But after the Darondo post i did, i never really followed it up like i had intended.

I gave you a Beatfanatic track(Let Us Pray) that i was feeling a couple of weeks ago. Now i have a couple more from this funky Swede's new album "Around The World In 80 Beats", which comes off the Soundscape label. The two i have chosen both have a bit of a disco feel to them, but you will find elements of latin, afro and house running through this excellent full length release from the man who calls himself Beatfanatic. You can find his album, and more beatfantaic releases on both Beatport and Emusic.

This weeks edition of Gearin'Up features DJ/Artist Karizma. I have a cut off his album(A Mind Of Its Own) which dropped earlier this year on R2 Records, and a couple of remixes he has done for both Simbad and Raw Artistic Soul.

Well, i finally got a live mix recorded and ready to post. It's a little scratchy in parts with both sound quality and the mixing, but i feel it's worthy enough of a post. Enjoy.

There isn't too much information floating around on Zurich born, now Bay Area artist Romanowski, who released his second Lp "Party In My Pants"in 2004, and a remixed album in 2007. So I'll just let you listen to these tracks and find out for yourselves.

I am an unabashed lover of the revival of the heavy funk sound of the late 60's, early 70's. Bands like Quantic Soul Orchestra, The Bamboos and The Dap Kings, just to name a few, are leading a renaissance of this sound, and i just can't seem to get enough of it. I will probably feature many of them on this blog (Bamboos and The Lefties already).

Whilst ripping some old CD's to my library, i happened across an artist call XRS Land. Turns out he is a Brazilian drum'n'bass artist by the name of Xerxes de Oliveira. His other aliases include Friendtronik, Kapitel 06 and Sys X. He seems to do a lot of work with DJ Marky , and has also remixed artists such as Everything But The Girl and Bebel Gilberto. Sarau(1999) is the CD i own, so here is couple of tracks off it, plus some of his work with DJ Marky and Vikter Duplaix.
